Nationals: A Week Unlike Any Other

Nationals: A Week Unlike Any Other

The running club had a spectacular performance at NIRCA Track & Field Nationals, the Holy Half, and the Boston Marathon this past weekend. Additionally, Shea Aquilano was just named Team USA and will compete for the US at the World Mountain & Trail Running Championships in June. Way to compete in everything from the 100-meter dash to ultra-marthons.

NIRCA Nationals

On Saturday and Sunday, April 15th and 16th, NIRCA Nationals was held at Olivet College. It was a great time and the team had great performances.

The 1st Day began with Danny O'Gara and Matthew Fishburne running our 1st ever 100 meter dash with times of 12.06 and 13.72 respectively.
Next, Danny and Matthew competed in the 200 meter dash with times of 24.45 and 27.55. Special congrats to Danny for getting the third fastest outdoor 200 meter in club history.
The temperature was rising quickly and by the time the 5Ks started, it was 83 degrees with full sun which made it tough racing conditions. Mitchell Jacob (17:12.96), Andrew Jitendran (18:17.72), and Jonathan Karr (20:41.58) all did great despite the heat.
After that, clouds rolled in, it started to rain, and it was perfect running weather for the 1500. Emily Arenas had an amazing race. She placed 3rd overall, was 1st Team All-American, scored 6 points for the club, broke her own club record, and ran 4:47.83. Patrick Jamieson and Winston Fairchild then ran the men's 1500, had a great performance, and ran times of 4:08.84 and 4:24.68. Congrats to Patrick for breaking the club record!
Finally, Matthew Fishburne ran the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.04, the 3rd fastest outdoor 400 in club history.
What a great first day of Nationals!

Sunday was another great day for racing. Pete Heesters and Ryan Fryer ran the fast heats of the 5K with times of 15:26.84 and 16:12.38. Pete set the club record for the outdoor 5000 and placed 11th at Nationals. Ryan also had a spectacular performance and competed in the Holy Half Marathon the day before.
Finally, Winston Fairchild and Andrew Jitendran ran the 800 and had great performances with times of 2:10.48 and 2:24.98 respectively.

The women placed 18th in the country at Nationals, thanks to Emily! Also, special thanks to our photographer and team dad, Max Petrosky, for taking stunning photos.
